Christmas Post Cards

Have been making a few christmas postcards, unfortunately for some reason they are not
scanning in color, so thought I would put in the black and white, rather interesting .
I just laid down various christmas fabrics and fused poinseittas of other things on top and then
machine free-motioned it all.

Vietnam Memories

My daughter was in Vietnam in 2005 and went on a river trip. She took this picture on the
tour and I did my best to interpret it. I used a lot of tulle and organzas. the cliff in the background
was manipulated fabric and the green background was free motion over tulle. The boat was made of some kind of silk and the oars and such were constructed, stuffed and applied. It was quite
a challenge.

"Icebound" 1999

In May 1999 my wall hanging called "Icebound" was juried into the CQA/ACC ,NJS held in
Charlottetown as part of Quilt PEI 1999.
This piece was a depiction of my grandfathers vessel stuck in the ice in Alberton harbour in
1908. As our house overlooks this harbour I really felt compelled to make this hanging and I
enjoyed making it.

The Oysterman--2001

The Oysterman is a hanging I made in 2001. The inspiration came from a photo in the local newspaper featuring the local fishery. The fisherman looked so contented, and the area
around him was so beautiful that I had to get it into fabric. The photographer, Charlene Williams
kindly consented to let me use the picture as a reference.

I used a raw-edge applique technique to construct the boat, fisherman and trees; to create
the appearance of shadows in the water, I used a reverse applique cutaway technique and
many layers of organza, tulle and nylon net. I also smashed an oyster shell and scattered it over the tong board of the boat.
It was purchased by The Canada Art Bank , at the time
more than 1400 art pieces were submitted for consideration.

ATC gathering

Last summer (2007) Confederation Center in Charlottetown, PEI,Canada hosted a gathering
of 55 people to exchange their ATC's. I have never made 55 of anything before, so it was quite
a chore but we had a couple of months to do it. Making them was really fun and I used many
different things, such as tyvek, wire, painted paper towels, dyed or painted bounce sheets,
thread painting, applique and other methods. It was quite interesting to see all the various
mediums that people used. I think I was the only quilter there. And I havent made any since
but no doubt I will do them again sometime.

Starting a Blog

I need a blog for a challenge I have entered, beginning in January.
I have wanted one for some time but didnt know how to do it. Thanks to my daughter and
the wonders of the internet here is my blog. Now all I have to do is to learn how to use it.
Which, given my poor memory will be a challenge.

Crayon Challenge

At our September quilt guild meeting we all picked a crayon from a bag , and we have to do a
challenge using the crayon color, plus one other color and black and white.
This was a lot of fun to do and simple as it is I really am quite pleased with it.
my crayon color was a reddish brown.
